The French Open, also known as Roland-Garros began in 1891, but was only open to members of French tennis clubs until 1924.  Between 1941 and 1945, France was under the occupation of Germany, and the tournaments played at this time are not officially recognised.

The tournament gained players from all over the world after World War II; and as the only Grand Slam tournament played on clay, it is seen as the most likely to produce an upset.

Relive each year of the triumphs and heartaches in The French Open.  A comprehensive history of the tournament, this is a must for tennis fans everywhere.
